6 Ways To Make Fast Fashion Look More Luxe

6 Ways To Make Fast Fashion Look More Luxe

Not everyone has the budget to buy the most luxurious designer items, I for one do not. I’ve got the kid to take care of and these bills, bills, bills! So, I opt for fabrics that have some movement but mostly structured and that give the appearance of a more expensive fabric. This is the age of fast-fashion and any designer look seen on your favorite celebrity or influencer can be achieved by spending a fraction of the cost and by making a few adjustments to your garments, check out the list below.

  1. Tailoring

Having a garment tailored can practically transform any outfit. Taking your blazer in at the waist or shortening a hem can enhance your body and create flattering lines. Appearing like your outfit was created just for you and only you speaks volumes when you walk in a room. Not only do you look LUXE but you give off the impression that you actually care about how you are perceived in the world.

2. Seams, Buttons and Zippers

Even though many fast-fashion companies have improved their quality over the years, still be mindful that this type of clothing is mass produced. Look closely as buttons may not be sewn on as tight as they should. Zippers may not lay flat or close like they should. Threads may dangle from various parts of the garment and may not be straight. Check all of these things if possible before you make your final purchase. If you are not happy with your buttons switch them out for textured or shiny ones. Going back to number 1 on the list, a tailor can always switch the buttons out for you, adjust seams and give you a new zipper.

3. Neutrals

If you follow me then you know I live in neutral colors and can’t get enough of gray, black, ivory and navy. I recommend buying neutrals because most neutral colored basics don’t look as inexpensive as say a garment in green or fushia. If you buy fast-fashion neutrals keep the silhouettes as simple and streamlined as possible. Again, if it has some sort of structure it will look more LUXE.

Fast-Fashion is currently dominating the retail space. Especially E-commerce. My top: Fashion Nova $12 Pants: H&M $15, Shoes: Nordstrom Rack $50, Handbag: H&M $28, Jacket: H&M $25, Belt: Asos $$19

4. Animal Prints

Since the beginning of time animal prints have been associated with luxury. In the 16th-18th century only royalty would be seen in luxurious, not to mention warm animal furs. In present day animal prints are accessible to everyone at any price point. There’s something about an eye-catching animal print whether it be in snake, leopard, or cheetah print it will elevate your outfit. Even wearing these prints on your shoes or accessories can be viewed as classic, chic and on trend. You can’t go wrong because remember, the colors in animal prints are also neutrals. Animal prints can pretty much be styled with any other color.

5. Steamer

A steamer is your best friend! I have always sung the praises of a household steamer to my clients. No more hanging up clothes near a hot shower wasting water. Household steamers help refresh your clothing in between dry cleaning trips (let’s save some coins ladies and gents). In most cases it knocks out those pesky synthetic fiber creases in your fast-fashion garments.

6. Monochromatic

Last but not least wearing the same color from top to bottom, not only makes you look leaner if that’s what you’re going for, but LUXE as well. All white, black, tan, red, or lavender it really doesn’t matter what color (check out NOIR POUR TOUJOURS). Adding different textured fabrics to your monochromatic look always looks more interesting to the eye. Just as an example, what if you wore a silk blouse, tweed jacket and denim all in the same color, with a matching leather pump? Honey heads will T-U-R-N and you will have earned your fashionista badge of honor!

Just by making these small adjustments or additions you can make your fast-fashion appear more luxe. What do you think of this list? Do you currently wear animal prints or neutrals? Have you done any of these things to enhance your fast-fashion garments? Please share and comment below.
