3 Things I've Learned From My Instagram Fam

3 Things I've Learned From My Instagram Fam

Summer is finally here and I am rejoicing because we are more than halfway through the year. Before you know it Winter will be here once more and 2019 will have come to an end. OMG!!!! What have you accomplished so far? Have you reached those goals you set for yourself? If you haven’t let me share the 3 things I’ve learned from my Instagram Fam that has gotten me all the way together.

  1. Persistence

These days it’s so easy to fall off the track. These damn notifications constantly buzzing on our phones and with all the up-to-the-minute world news, reality tv drama and our own drama, how could you possibly get anything done? No seriously, I once found myself on my phone for hours not having completed one thing I set out to do for the day. That’s just not right!

My Instagram (IG) Fam have showed me that you must block out the noise, focus and get to work. Whatever your dreams are you’ve got to write it out step by step, create a vision board of where you want to be and complete each task one at a time no matter how long it takes.

Two years ago I decided to take courses at FIT (Fashion Institute of Technology) to pursue an Image Consultant Certification. My first thought was, how am I going to manage this with work and the busy family life I have? The answer to this was persistence. Completing one course and then the next, and so on and on until it was done. It felt like such a slow and never ending process, but I did it! I watch several Fashionistas on IG come up with constant content everyday even when no one was paying as much attention as I thought they should have been. They never stopped and because of their unwavering persistence they have grown their brands and following tremendously.

2. Gratitude

I know I’m not the only one that has experienced life altering experiences. I am slowly learning that I have no control over, well…anything. I’m where I am because of choices I’ve made all on my own, so why not be present as well as thankful for where it’s brought me? My Instagram Fam have shared their journeys through their content and IG stories that are inspiring. They are thankful for what they have and what life has given them and it’s crystal clear in their weekly post.

The perfect example of this was one of the most beautiful and genuine Fashionistas I ever had the pleasure of following. Kyrzayda Rodriguez (@kyrzayda) was a gorgeous Dominican influencer and blogger that had me and fashion lovers waiting to see how she was going to bring the fire to Instagram everyday with her bomb fashion sense. She sadly passed away from stomach cancer last year soon after her 40th birthday. From the time she was diagnosed until her last Instagram Live she never stopped having gratitude for her life, family and her half a million followers. My heart breaks for her family and all those whose lives she touched. I remind myself that it’s good to just be grateful and thankul for where you are in this life, remember these are just chapters in this book called LIFE.

3. Be Unapologetic

My IG fam is the greatest! Week after week followers bring their creativity, no holds barred, I don’t give a bleep what you think style and attitude to be shared with the world. It’s scary in this current climate to be who you are for fear of hate, judgement and ridicule. Listen up, if people don’t like you then they don’t like you and they’re not your tribe. I personally have always been who I am on Instagram and have lost countless followers, but those that stayed as followers get me and I get them. So you won’t find me apologizing for being who I was meant to be, nor will you find hundreds of thousands of Instagrammers just like me apologizing either. I’m attracted to real and if you think no one can tell when someone is getting fake likes or fake clout and comments you’re mistaken. Just trust that being yourself is enough. So shout out to the non-clout chasers, free-thinkers, creatives and genuine Fashionistas! You all are awesome and thanks for teaching me so much about myself. I hope you spend the last few months of the year being persistent with your goals, having gratitude for what you have and be unapologetic for who you are meant to be.
